Meet the 2020 New York Tennis Expo Panelists

WANTAGH, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES, January 31, 2020 / — The 2020 New York Tennis Expo will feature two different sets of Speaker Sessions which will take place on Sunday, February 9.

Both panels will be headlined by legendary tennis coach Nick Bollettieri, founder of IMG Academy. Former World No. 8 Jack Sock will be on the panel in the morning session, while 2019 New York Open finalist Brayden Schnur will participate in the afternoon session.

Nick Bollettieri is considered by many to be one of the best tennis coaches of all time. Jack Sock is an American professional tennis player, who has been ranked as high as eighth in singles and second in doubles. A native of Lincoln, Nebraska, Sock turned pro in 2011 and has won four ATP singles titles. He has advanced as far as the fourth round in singles at both the French and US Opens, and has become one of the top doubles players in the world, winning four Grand Slam titles and a Gold Medal at the 2016 Olympics.

Hannah Berner is a former professional and collegiate tennis player turned content creator, video producer, podcast host and newest cast member of Bravo’s hit series “Summer House,” now in its third season. She was born in Brooklyn, New York and played competitive tennis for the University of Wisconsin. She has emerged on the comedy scene by directing, editing and acting in videos on Instagram and writing viral tweets. This past November Hannah launched her podcast “Berning in Hell” where she interviews her guests about their deepest insecurities, anxieties and fears.

Julia Elbaba, a native of Oyster Bay, New York, is currently a professional tennis player. As a five-time All-American at the University of Virginia, she was the first person in program history to rank No. 1 in singles nationally in Division I tennis. In 2014, she became a National Champion when winning the ITA National Indoor Collegiate Championships in New York. She represented the United States at the 2014 Master’U BNP Paribas in Aix-en-Provence and was undefeated in singles and doubles, and took home the gold medal for USA.

Steve Kaplan is the owner and managing director of Bethpage Park Tennis Center, as well as director emeritus of Lacoste Academy for New York City Parks Foundation, and executive director and founder of Serve & Return Inc. Steve has coached more than 1,100 nationally-ranked junior players, 16 New York State high school champions, two NCAA Division 1 Singles Champions, and numerous highly-ranked touring professionals. Many of the students Steve has closely mentored have gone to achieve great success as prominent members of the New York financial community, and in other prestigious professions. In 2017, Steve was awarded the Hy Zausner Lifetime Achievement Award by the USTA.

Gilad Bloom, a former Israeli Davis Cup player and two-time Olympian, played on the ATP Tour from 1983-1995, reached the fourth round of the U.S. Open in 1990, reached a highest ranking of 61 in singles, was Israel Singles Champion three times. Bloom has been running his own tennis program since 2000 and also was director of tennis at John McEnroe Tennis Academy for two years.

Jay Harris is the Co-General Manger/Director of Tennis at SPORTIME Roslyn and the Director of John McEnroe Tennis Academy’s College Recruiting Combine. He was the Head Men’s Tennis Coach at Brown University for eight years, before joining the SPORTIME team in 2010. He led the program to two Ivy League titles and seven straight NCAA Tournament appearances, and two of his Brown University players later advanced to the Quarterfinals of Wimbledon. Prior to Brown, Harris coached at Bowling Green University where he led the team to two Mid-American Conference titles. He played collegiate tennis at the University of Cincinnati, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. He was recently named USTA Eastern's Tennis Professional of the Year in 2019.

Dr. Tom Ferraro has been a psychoanalyst and sport psychologist in full time private practice and is a pioneer in the field of depth sport psychology. He practices out of Williston Park and has been affiliated with numerous professional organizations including the Women’s United Soccer Association, the New York Lizards, Tour Edge Golf Company and NYU Winthrop Hospital. It fulfilled him in a way he had never known before. Eager for enlightenment as well as salvation, Chris Muggler quickly made faith his priority, a decision which has served him well in the years since.

While Chris Muggler was always a kindhearted and giving soul, his faith has pushed him to be even more philanthropic and give his time and energy to help others. In addition to speaking at his church, he is heavily involved in various community outreach endeavors.

Chris Muggler says volunteering, whether it is at the local animal shelter or soup kitchen, is one of the best ways to share God’s mercy. Besides this, there are several little things you can do on a daily basis. These include being patient and withholding judgment, accepting people’s quirks and differences, and giving people a second chance. He also suggests being radically kind, helping people around you who are hurt or struggling, and even responding to anger or hatred with kindness.

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, January 31, 2020 / — For a short time last July, Saquon Barkley wasn’t the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, the face of the Giants or a television commercial star. Things were simpler and quieter, but Barkley still had something to strive for; to be like his childhood sports hero, Kobe Bryant. Although the two were in different sports, Barkley looked up to Kobe as an athlete and strived to be better in any way just like Kobe.

Bryant’s death in a helicopter crash Sunday, along with his daughter Gianna and seven other victims, shook up the entire sports world. Barkley had to take a couple of moments of silence during his discussion with The Post on Super Bowl 2020 Radio Row to control his emotions when discussing the late 41-year-old NBA star.

“Big inspiration to me,” Barkley said. “Unfortunately I never got to meet him, but he had a big impact on me and the type of player I hopefully continue to be. I love everything he is about: The Mamba Mentality.” Now what does that really mean to Barkley?

“You have a relentless approach,” Barkley said. “You find something you are passionate about and want to be great at. And you don’t just talk about it, you go and do it. You get to the point where you get others around you to do it, too. I think he did that the best out of anyone.” Bryant was the epitome of a hard work ethic for something you are passionate about and as such elevated his game so much that he became a five-time NBA champion and the fourth-leading scorer in NBA history. “Try to go 10 times harder in everything you are doing,” Barkley said, “because you never know when it can be taken from you.”

“It’s been amazing how everyone has responded and the impact that he had – the impact on kids,” Barkley contiued. “I said on my video, ‘I hope one day I can even have half the impact you have on people.’ It’s sad to see him go, and rest in peace to his daughter, Gigi. Devastating.” This was another chord that struck personally to Barkley, as he is a young 22 year-old father with a soon to be 2 year-old daughter.

“It definitely hits you on a whole other level,” Barkley said. “The first thing I wanted to do was call my daughter and tell her I love her. You should never take anything for granted in this world. You have to try to live life to the fullest.” #Girldad, a new viral Twitter hashtag, exploded in the last few days. It came from “SportsCenter” anchor Elle Duncan who told on-air about meeting Bryant while pregnant and the pride he displayed in his four daughters. Gianna was 13 and one of four daughters Bryant had. “Those little girls that you have,” Barkley said, “your heart is different.” Barkley will carry Bryant’s message forward to preserve that Mamba Mentality in all aspects of his life.
